Education for Children
CHC’s holistic approach to care for medically complex children includes educational services. Our Education Department has been in existence for over 10 years and is certified by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) as a private non-public school and provides education for children who are not able to attend an off-site public school. It also is accredited by the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET).
All of our residents receive educational services, even those under the age of 3 thanks to our Early Childhood Development Programs. If a child is not medically stable enough to attend an off-site school, they may attend one of our classrooms or receive bedside teaching.
Our curriculum is delivered using a holistic approach and carried out through different sensory stimulations while complying with local and state academic standards. Our students/residents must be instructed with the same academic curriculum and standardized assessments, using modifications and accommodations, as students/residents without physical and/or cognitive challenges. Curriculum includes multiculturalism and stimulation field trips, and students/residents will engage in learning at whatever level is appropriate.
The teaching staff at CHC are certified/licensed in their respective professions, and there is a very small student-to-teacher ratio so that every child gets the specialized attention he or she needs and deserves. Successful learning and positive outcomes are what drive our Education Department every day!
